Life For Our Residents

When people have worked hard throughout their lives and have been committed to helping others, we think they deserve extra cherishing. They need a home where individuality is emphasised, with staff that have time to give attention to small detail, and where they have the choice of enjoying the company of like-minded fellow residents.

From the very first time meeting your loved one on the pre-admission assessment, right up until their final days at The Oaks, the process will be as smooth and comfortable as possible for your loved one and family.

We know that naturally due to age, mobility, dementia and health decline, life can become increasingly difficult. With that in mind, our primary focus is on providing a high quality of life in a homely environment that is safe and has person centred support 24 hours a day.

Accommodation

The Oaks is run as a small family concern with the owners closely involved with the day to day running of the home. The objective of the home is to offer each resident individual care and attention which preserves their privacy and dignity right up to the end of their days.

A great deal of flexibility is offered to residents to make their own choice in all aspects of their day. Every encouragement will be given to the pursuance of their hobbies, interests and religious worship.

Activities

We offer a wide variety of activities to keep residents minds and bodies active. We actively encourage participation for intellectual, creative, educational and social benefit. When a new resident comes into the home, we assess their personality and likes to accurately match them to another resident with similar interests to form a friendship.

We have a magic table which is an interactive sensory table projecting moving objects onto surfaces. This can be used on duvets for residents bedbound as well as on tables, floors, walls and ceilings in communal areas. Our residents really enjoy this activity and respond well to it, thus keeping their brain stimulated.

We have active involvement with two local schools who come to visit us with letters, gifts and they often sing some songs for the residents enjoyment.
Residents enjoy regular visits from our pet therapy dog which usually brings up a talking point of past pets and stories relating to animals. This activity is of great sensory and emotional benefit for our residents and they look forward to it.

On a monthly basis, we have live singers who come to perform all the greatest hits from our residents era and our residents sing, dance and shake their maracas to the music.

Our residents enjoy visits from local churches who come to sing carols and carry out church services.
